The goal of Astra Approach is to improve children’s functional skills and development. Dr. Yampolsky conducted a study to illustrate the outcomes of BEST (Bio-Energetic System Therapy) treatment in a group of 160 CP patients (age range: 0 to 7) and 32 patients with speech delays. The study included statistical analysis of different diagnostic subtypes of cerebral palsy, considering sex, age, and severity of symptoms.
The efficacy of the combined BEST (Bio-Energetic System Therapy) treatment was assessed according to the modified Ashworth Scale (Bohannon and Smith 1987), and the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-III; Wechsler 1991). The developmental improvement scores were obtained according to the Clinical Scale (Moscow Methodic Recommendations for Organization of Children Rehabilitation Centers; Moscow 1990) before and after one course of BEST treatment for children with CP and other psycho-neurological disorders.
The study was conducted under the umbrella of the St. Petersburg City Rehabilitation Psycho-Neurological Center for Children with Motor Disorders from 1993 to 1995. The efficiency of the therapy was also estimated due to functional test results: dopplerography, electroencephalography, and echoencephalography in addition to developmental improvements shown in tables.
The effectiveness of this treatment was confirmed by considerable improvements in gross motor activity, and fine motor tasks, coordination of movements, and change in speed and range of active joint motion, as well as the acquisition of new skills, speech development, and language comprehension, and change in general emotional background.
94% of the patients achieved muscle tone normalization
87% of patients achieved the improvement of head control in supine position

63% of patients were able to walk without assistance
31% of the patients began to walk with assistance
89% of patients were able to open their spastically fisted hand

Statistical analysis from a sample of 32 children with speech delays treated at the St. Petersburg City Rehabilitation Psycho-Neurological Center
The analysis includes 32 patients with speech delays, who were born between 1987 and 1994. The sample has the following characteristics:
— Gender: 23 males, 9 females
— Affliction: 77% reduced language comprehensive skills, 92% reduction in producing new words, 95% reduction in combining two and three words into phrases and 16% delays in the area of social affective interactions.
Outcomes of the Treatment:
— 97% of the patients improved their language comprehension skills, followed two-step commands in structured activities, and increased receptive vocabulary to include objects, categories and descriptive concepts
— 96% of patients achieved the improvement in producing new words
— 88% of the patients began to combine two and three words into phrases
— 94% of patients increased their communication abilities in all communicative environments
This study demonstrates considerable improvements after even 1 course of BEST (Bio-Energetic System Therapy) massage, reflexology, polarity therapy and special exercises, complemented by herbal therapy, homeopathic treatment and developmental play therapy.
